Thanks to a grant from the United Arts Council, it was possible for me to take a trip to California to visit one of my wood suppliers.  This  trip allowed me to hand pick wood for more specialized projects.  Once there, we discovered that he also sold Buckeye Burl slabs and stumps.  My wife and I selected several slabs and then picked through pallets of stumps to find the best shapes and sizes for our slabs.  We ended up shipping about 2000 pounds of wood back to NC.

This table is one of the products of that trip.  The base was dyed black giving a more refined look to the table.  The spikes were added for stability but also to create the illusion they were already in the tree.
